Malo Description:
Steven Arroyo of Cobras & Matadors fame dishes up casual-but-stylish Mexican food at this self-billed "taquería Chicana" in Silver Lake. Start with chips fried to order, accompanied by such creative salsas as a blend of roasted árbol chilies and Spanish chocolate, tomatillo with Hass avocado, or burnt habanero chilies with crème fraîche. Fillings for the soft or fried tacos, which come two to the order, include braised beef, lobster, eggplant and potato, carnitas, beer-battered shrimp, and grilled fish of the day. The menu also includes soups, salads, ceviches, enchiladas and such à la carte items as Yucatan-style chicken in a citrus-and-achiote marinade, fiery lobster or shrimp Diablo, and vegetarian stuffed zucchini. Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. is "Hora Felíz" (happy hour to you), featuring margaritas, beer with tequila shots and bargain chips and tacos.
