La Korea Description:
This modest counter-service restaurant in the northwest corner of the original Farmers Market, a short stroll away from the throngs at The Grove, offers a limited but authentic choice of Korean main courses: beef short ribs or thinly sliced steak, both marinated in a sweet soy sauce; and boneless chicken leg or sliced pork, both in a spicy red chili marinade. (We're partial to the beefsteak and pork.) Choose one and it's char-grilled for you while you select three choices from a range of side orders that include the pungent pickled cabbage with chili and garlic called kimchi, marinated sliced cucumbers, seaweed, bean sprouts and simple green salad. The charming Korean attendants heap them onto a plate alongside a mound of white rice, on top of which goes your hot-off-the-grill food. Vegetable rice bowls, glass noodles with mixed vegetables, and a tofu salad with sesame dressing ensure that vegetarians don't feel neglected. Sitting back to enjoy it all at one of the Farmers Market's communal patio tables, we marveled at such outstanding value for a filling, flavorful meal.
