Leaf Cuisine Description:
Meat-and-potatoes types may be wary of any place named for a piece of a tree, as well they should. You won't find any meat at this deconstructed café, nor will you find anything cooked---with the exception of optional sprouted-grain tortillas for the tortilla wraps, available upon request in place of collard greens. Founded by chef Rod Rotundi, a disciple of living food guru Juliano, Leaf serves up conscious cuisine, all raw and organic, in casual café style. Sunburgers are a vegetarian version of the fast-food staple, although they lack the texture and satisfaction level of the original. Chickpea falafel croquettes are dehydrated, not deep-fried. There is nothing here to plague the mind with gastronomic guilt; but much of it can leave those but the most die-hard health gurus less than satisfied. Steer (if you'll excuse that verb's meatier connotations) toward the fresh organic juices and smoothies---including the Mudslide Slim, composed of dates, bananas and almond milk---which are fresh, flavorful and served in extremely generous portions.
