The Rose Cafe Description:
Manhar Patel started Rose Café in 1979 in an abandoned Gas Company dispatch office. He and business partner Kamal Kapur transformed the industrial space, which now displays paintings from local artists. If you sit inside and order at the counter, you can linger over your cappuccino and croissant for as long as you wish. If you prefer table service, there's a sunny side patio with a full menu and attentive staff. The salads, quiches and pastries are secondary to the charming atmosphere, but in chef David Wolfe's hands, that's not a detriment. For breakfast, Eggs San Pietro is a variation on eggs Benedict, with prosciutto and smoked ham; and Salmon Florentine features fish-filled puff pastry with dill hollandaise sauce. Later in the day, seared filet mignon salad hosts warm feta dressing and the mixed seafood grill combines mahi mahi, shrimp and a potent chipotle sauce.
