The Ivy Description:
One of L.A.'s most intense power-meal boîtes---as well as one of its prettiest---The Ivy is always inhabited by plenty of familiar faces. The charming patio, surrounded by its signature white picket fence, is the most famous of the design elements created by co-owner-designer Lynn von Kersting. Roses bloom everywhere, the chintz upholstery is lovely and the plates are hand-painted. While some celebrity customers are notorious for customizing orders to suit their peculiar dietary demands, the menu is filled with solid California-ized Americana items---generously portioned yet nonetheless overpriced---such as the popular chopped salad, justifiably famous crab cakes, savory meatloaf, southern-style fried chicken, Cajun prime rib, Louisiana soft-shell crab, and even a bang-up burger. Co-owner Richard Irving started out as a pâtissier and his desserts are among the high points here, from chocolate chip cookies to rich pecan squares. Despite the homespun cuisine, you're not likely to receive a warm Mayberry-style welcome here. In fact---unless you possess one of those familiar faces---The Ivy can be one of the chilliest spots in L.A.
