Frying Fish Description:
The owner of this compact sushi bar claims his was the first in L.A. to feature a conveyor belt transporting the sushi around the room. It certainly is the only such spot in otherwise traditional Little Tokyo. For this reason, and for the low prices, Frying Fish is one of the area's more popular sushi bars. The crowd skews young and the sushi is fine, but this is no Matsuhisa. Nonetheless, we have enjoyed several of the specials. New Zealand green mussels, for instance, are delicious, baked to a golden sheen under a blanket of rich Japanese mayonnaise. We also like the Palm Springs roll, with scallops, eel, avocado and cucumber, as well as some of the other eclectic rolls. P.S.: What you can't find on the conveyor belt, the sushi chefs will make to order.
