Palomino Euro Bistro Description:
We always want to give successful upscale chains a fair shake, because they must be doing something right, right? However, we're just not impressed with this contender for the Westwood dining crowd. The hostesses and staff are cheerful and charming. But there's a distressing degree of fakery here: from the fake Matisses to the forlorn fake palm trees. And the food is by no means European. The dressed-up bar food isn't bad---in fact the signature crab dip is a tasty mound of hot shredded crab and artichoke hearts, which you scoop up with sheets of cheesy pizza toast. But our prawns were encrusted with so much salt we suspected they'd come from the Dead Sea, the rotisserie chicken was dry, and the seafood salad had barely enough shrimp to sate a kitten.
