John O'Groats Description:
Bring a newspaper to read when you come for breakfast on Sunday morning as there will likely be a wait. Owners Angelico and Robert Jacoby visited the tiny Scottish town of John O'Groats and were so impressed that they named their restaurant, which opened in 1982, for it. The Rancho Park coffee shop features a blue and white tile floor and a white counter with blue stools. If you prefer table service, there's also an inviting dining room. The Jacobys are especially adept with breakfast, offering buttermilk or mango-macadamia nut pancakes, salmon hash and eggs with home fries, and the full throttle Huevos O'Groats---a biscuit dough tortilla topped with black beans, sautéed onions and peppers, two eggs, shredded cheese, sour cream and salsa. Later in the day, expect tasty soups, crisp and non-greasy fish 'n' chips and a crab melt with avocado and melted Provolone. Since the kitchen is tiny and the staff is small, expect a lag time between ordering and eating. Be patient, but if that's not possible, there's also take-out and free delivery.
