Situated in a beautifully restored 1912 landmark firehouse, this classic American bar and grill sports an ornate pressed tin ceiling and dark mahogany booths along with the firehouse's original red-brick floor and brass fire pole. Downtown business types flock here for power lunches and after-work cocktails. With free shuttle service to the Music Center, the restaurant is a good choice for all-American pre-theater dining. Start with a bowl of roasted sweet corn chowder or a dish of macaroni and cheese. Interesting options include roasted chicken potpie with a buttermilk biscuit crust, slow-cooked braised lamb shank with pappardelle or grilled calf's liver with pepper bacon and caramelized onions. There are also several steak options, highlighted by the grilled skirt steak with onion-mustard marinade and jalapeño jelly. At lunch, there are meal-size sandwiches containing crab cakes with rémoulade or a slab of cold meatloaf.
