Dinah's is that sprawling, tacky-looking coffee shop you pass on your way to LAX, the one with the sign announcing its daily breakfast special. Since 1959, the restaurant has served more than 150 million pieces of its secret-recipe fried chicken by the barrel, but the real draw here are the over-the-top pancakes, especially the huge, puffy, skillet-baked German apple pancakes with a cinnamon glaze. Dinner plates are highlighted by flat-iron steak, sizzling barbecued ribs and beef liver with sautéed onions and bacon. Plates come with a roll, banana bread and items like mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. To drink, milk shakes come in the usual flavors, plus tropical options like mango and pineapple.
