This is one of the best places in Los Angeles to find the robust beef- and garlic-centric cuisine of Buenos Aires, along with an air of romance, created by live tango music or jazz on Fridays and Saturdays and decadent low lighting. Start with the matambre, a flank steak rolled around a mélange of pimientos, hard-cooked chopped eggs and pungent herbs. For a lighter beginning, share the refreshing ensalada de la casa, a platter heaped with diced cucumber, hearts of palm, raw onion, tomato and egg, all tossed in tangy vinaigrette. One dish sums up all the entrées: entrana a la parrilla, a grilled skirt steak (at least a foot in length) accompanied by topnotch skinny fries and a silver gravy boat of chimichurri sauce. What helps set this place apart, though, is a first-rate wine list boasting an impressive selection of Argentine wines, along with fine French, American and Italian selections. Don't be intimidated, though, as any choice from the list is bound to serve you well.

Carlito's Gardel is easily the best restaurant on the planet!
I've been going here as often as possible for the last 5 or 6 years, and that's a big part of why I wake up every morning. From the first piece of bread to the last bite of the peach-meringue-dulce de leche cake, Carlito's doesn't miss a beat.
Sometimes, restaurants have really good food, and some menu items aren't always that great, and maybe the service isn't always up to par, but this place blows everyone out of the water because they have it covered from end to end, and they NEVER miss a beat! Everything on the plate tastes like they picked it out back. There's a to-die-for chimichurri sauce that I always take home in a jar, and perfect empanadas with chicken, beef, or spinach, and salads and calamari and golden, crispy, french fries with garlic and cilantro, and a giant portobello stuffed to the brim with cheese and spinach.
But without a doubt, the pi�ce de r�sistance is the skirt steak, cooked not a moment too long, dripping with a little bit of blood, and framed by a pumpkin mashed potato worthy of sharing a plate with that beef.
I could always die happy after my steak, but, of course, there's more. The dessert wine pairs perfectly with one of the fresh, homemade dulce de leche or chocolate desserts, and the live music and impeccable service only complete the experience.
Los Angeles has a boatload of restaurants, new and old, but Carlito's Gardel is, without a doubt, in a class of its own. Carlito's proves that a restaurant can be flawless from top to bottom. Don't waste your time eating anywhere else!!
