Koo's Grill Description:
Parked near the entrance to Koreatown's California Market sits a silver trailer featuring a yellow awning and the words "KOO'S GRILL." The Koo family opened their first location at the California Market in Garden Grove, then expanded to Koreatown in 2001. The Koos only sell one item---hotteok---a glutinous rice pancake filled with a hot syrup of cinnamon, brown sugar and crushed peanuts. The chewy pancakes are five inches across and caramelize on the griddle from leaky syrup. There are no seats, unless you count a coin-operated kiddie airplane ride near the market's entrance. If you want to eat the pancakes on site, they're nestled in a folded paper plate. To-go, the pancakes are stacked on wax paper and packaged in a Styrofoam container. It's worth the inconvenience to experience one of the city's unique desserts. Even better, they're only a dollar each.
