Watching kayaks and boats pass by from our wicker perches, surrounded by tropical décor, we can nearly forget we're dining in the Marina Pacifica Mall. Sit at the bar for the best views of the marina, and order from a cocktail list that's heavy on drinks ending in "tini." Happily, Tantalum has more to offer than just fruity drinks. The kitchen prepares a sprawling Asian fusion menu. Certain options are overly familiar and overpriced, but there are some winners. At lunch, Tantalum emphasizes "handhelds"---that is, sandwiches. Skip the incongruous turkey club and order kalua pork on a Hawaiian bun with barbecue sauce and pineapple relish. At dinner, start with rock shrimp-studded roasted corn chowder. Ulu Watu udon noodles incorporate sweet chilies and tender cuts of filet mignon. Among the main courses, pan-roasted Kobe flatiron steak with shrimp fried rice delivers a novel take on surf 'n' turf.

Poor Service! Our waiter was absent most of the time. We waited over 30 minutes from the time we ordered until our food arrived, and that was only because we complained. The food tastes bland. The noise level gave me a headache as the TVs in the bar area were blaring simultaneously with loud overhead music. Will never go there again, there are better places to go in Long Beach.
