Star of India Description:
The décor is a sort of kitsch Italianate trompe l'œil, stamped by the personality of the owner, Reza Mahammad, who took over the restaurant from his father in 1991. The menu too comes in for praise for its consistency and light touch and understated flavours that reflect local preferences. Indian traditions are maintained in enticing vegetables such as crunchy cubes of okra in yoghurt, and okra again, fried with shreds of red onion. Lucknow minced chicken comes with herby raisins, lamb biryani comes in a pastry-sealed pot, and there is a wide choice of breads. There's a good wine list and among hearty reds, the Australian Shiraz is ideal for Indian food.
