Red Fort Description:
One of the first upmarket Indian eateries in London, the Red Fort boasts a beautiful interior, full of Indian art and enough exposed sandstone and natural colours to suit the modernists. There's also a downstairs bar, called Akbar. The cooking is classic Mughal with much use made of the tandoor and the grill. Expect the finest ingredients and presentations in dishes like jhinga nisha (king prawns in a delicate saffron sauce) and grilled lamb chops marinated in pomegranate juice. Regional biryanis are suffused with delicate perfumes and topped with daily specials like kid goat chops. The wine list is good and the service professional. Set 2-course lunch £12, set 2-course pre-theatre menu £16 including tea or coffee.
