Pâtisserie Valerie has held its position as one of London's top cafés, starting in Soho on Old Compton Street and fanning out from there to conquer different parts of town. But, this old-fashioned, wool-panelled room continues to be our favourite. It may be less sophisticated than the Old Brompton branch in Knightsbridge, but it fits nicely. Expect simple salads and club sandwiches, plus pastries that are some of the best chocolate fixes in town. Top coffee, also.
