Admiral Codrington Description:
The local Chelsea set has always loyally supported the Admiral Cod as it's affectionately known and so they should. Here is a great pub with a smart restaurant at the back, country house-style with the odd nautical design references and complete with retractable roof to give an al fresco feel without the chilly breezes. The cooking is thoroughly modern, using a good mix of ingredients like tartare of tuna and scallops with a citrus soy dressing, or a mushroom and ricotta cannelloni with pomodoro sauce (which comes as a starter or main size). Mains go a more traditional route, even to fish 'n' chips with mushy peas, or a nicely cooked steak, or slow-roasted lamb shank with celeriac mash. No great surprises, but with everything so well done, why change? There's a good wine list, with a special fine wine selection; service is friendly and professional; prices are above the usual gastropub norm, but worth the extra.
