Sumosan Description:
In a suitably fashionable minimalist setting---it's decorated with dark wood and glass while the downstairs bar is intimate---the restaurant has gone through its ups and downs, but currently seems set fair. The menu is long and though the staff are helpful, you could choose the tasting menu for a tour of the chef's skills. Or go for a whole host of dishes, like tuna with avocado, sevruga caviar and a quail's egg, sprinkled with truffle oil; baby squid with teriyaki sauce; sea bream carpaccio with shrimps; the range of top sushi; and a variety of rolls like rock shrimp tempura. In Nobu style, the famous black cod with miso is impressive; otherwise go for the sea bass or spicy noodles with lobster and baby asparagus. Meat eaters get spoilt with lamb chops, duck with lingonberry sauce or the grill dish of fillet of beef, lamb and pork with yakiniku sauce. The wine list is equally serious. As it's slightly off the main restaurant path, the place is usually pleasantly busy but not frantic, making for a very enjoyable meal to be lingered over. Set lunch £22.50, set meals £50-£90.
