L. Woods Tap & Pine Lodge Description:
The place does barbecue and fish in a rather pedestrian way, so there's not much that sparks our interest here. That said, you will find crowd-pleasers like barbecue planked salmon, whitefish De Jonge and an array of flatbreads. In the mood for comfort food? Visit the nightly specials, which range from meatloaf with mushroom gravy to prime rib. While the food may not win awards, there's something for everyone. And we must admit that the lodge-y, North Woods setting isn't half bad.

We've been going to L. Woods for several years now - sometimes with our children, sometimes without. But every time, our dining experience has been stellar. The quality of the food is top notch which was confirmed recently after striking up a conversation with one of the managers. The restaurant makes everything from scratch, from things as minor as the gravy for meatloaf to the layer chocolate cake (the best we've ever tasted). They also buy locally meaning the produce comes from the area, not shipped from who-knows-where and even items like the pork is from the Midwest. We love the fact that the kids menu has real food on it. Yes, there are chicken fingers but they are made from real chicken from scratch but you can also order roast chicken, steak and barbecue ribs in kid-sized portions and prices. The portions overall are generous and given the quality, you pay for it. That's not to say it's pricey but simply you get what you pay for.
I would recommend getting reservations because it can get crowded, especially on weekends. Suffice to say, you'll have a great experience -- excellent food, great service and kid-friendly.

This review has many firsts for me. I have never posted a review on a restaurant, but felt my recent experience at L Woods needed one. The review may seem over the top on how bad this restaurant is, but I truly did not want anyone else having the same experience that we had.
I eat out a lot. A least five+ times a week and am a gold preferred Lettuce Entertain You Member. We love all of their restaurants, since the food is consistently good with some excellent dishes. The service is almost always excellent at all of their locations. We heard from some of our friends that L Woods food is good and drove up from Old Town to give it a try.
This can not be further from the case at L Woods. I can't even begin to list all of the issue this place has. This review is really a warning not to go there. 1st off the prices...wow! No it's fine dinner prices, but this is gastro pub food that is priced way too high. They had a fish and chips special for $23. It includes a few pieces of fish and some chips. The Gage, downtown, has some of the best fish and chips and only charges $18. The Gage is kind of pricey, but for what you get, it's worth it. R.J. Grunts, charges a couple of bucks less for a burger that is much larger and taste like a real burger.
I ordered an Old Fashion Hamburger. It seriously was one of the worst meals I have ever had. I stopped eating the fries after a few and stated that I think they are McDonald's fries. The burger was even worst. I ordered mine medium. It comes out as a thin grilled/charred piece. I gave it a try and was disgusting. I put salt on it, which I never put extra salt on my food. Half of the burger was well done and half was rare. The service was poor. Not as bad as the food, but really bad.
Seriously, this is the worst dinning experience I can remember having in the past five + years.
