Shizen Description:
There's lots to like in this colorful restaurant, complete with a popular sushi bar, a busy dining room with table seating, and two teppan tables with granite tops where Japanese chefs prepare food to order with dramatic flair. Beautiful water features and lush landscaping enhance patio dining. The teppanyaki menu offers choices including chicken, filet mignon, Kobe beef, salmon steak, shrimp and diver scallops, accompanied by garlic chips, miso soup, garden salad, vegetables and steamed rice. Among the appealing à la carte appetizers, we like the ahi poke---fresh tuna with seaweed, onion and spicy chile sesame soy---and the deep-fried soft shell crab with orange ponzu sauce. A work of art, the Shokado bento box is filled with tempura, sashimi, a California roll, and a choice of chicken teriyaki, miso butterfish or Prime New York steak; and it also comes with soup, salad, sunomono rice, dessert and green tea. We also like the saké-steamed opakapaka (red snapper). Sakés and a nice wine list complement the cuisine. Among sweet finales are banana and mango tempura topped with strawberry sauce; and cappuccino glace---coffee gelatin with vanilla ice cream topped with Kahlúa.
