Rubios Baja Grill Description:
Rubio's is famous and loved all over for its freshness and its fish tacos. The chunky white fish is coated in a beer batter and fried, served in a soft corn tortilla with a milky white sauce, salsa and shredded cabbage that is as unusual tasting as it is sounding (mahi mahi and shrimp versions are also available). Less adventurous diners may opt for a more traditional chicken burrito, which is void of any real zip. Same goes for the chicken quesadilla. It's wise to coat either with something from the tiny, fresh salsa bar---the selections are actually quite tasty. Grab a seat on the patio under one of the palm-frond umbrellas; maybe, if you pretend you're having lunch on the Baja peninsula, the food will taste better. On a positive note, the restaurant deserves a round of applause for the inventiveness of its kids menu, which features chicken taquitos, among other entrées, beans or chips with rice and a pint-sized churro (a fried cinnamon bread stick) for dessert.
