Since 1926, the La Quinta Resort & Club has been a hideaway for refugees from Hollywood and the East Coast, and it still retains its old-fashioned charm and its feeling of sanctuary. In this beautiful hacienda-style oasis, the Adobe Grill shines with its sophisticated, far from typical Mexican food. The care and authenticity in specialty dishes like sopa de tortilla (spicy chicken soup topped with crispy tortillas, avocado and cheese), the different versions of guacamole served tableside, and the traditional mole will make you think you're in a tiny town south of the border. Then you come across surprises you wouldn't find in a small town, such as the signature dish, "mero empanisado," fresh grilled halibut with a maple-pecan crust in a citrus sauce---a surprising blend of simplicity and delicacy. Sit on the outdoor tiled patio at dusk with an ice-cold, zesty margarita and listen to the mariachi band. This is the next best thing to actually being on vacation in Mexico.
