The Feast at Lele Description:
Most luaus are fairly standard buffets---and include such ersatz Hawaiian fare as fried chicken. The Feast at Lele puts a gourmet spin on things with a sit-down dinner at individual tables and a high-profile chef: James McDonald of Pacific'O and I'o restaurants. The food is a multi-course culinary tour of Polynesia: slow-roasted kalu'a pork and pohole fern from Hawai'i; sea bean duck salad with poha berry dressing from New Zealand; poisson cru and scallops on the shell from Tahiti; grilled steak and palusami, or young taro leaf and coconut milk with breadfruit, from Samoa. Dessert comes in the form of a sampler platter, which includes caramel-macadamia nut tart with haupia and Hawaiian vintage chocolate truffles. And, of course, there's a show, which also cruises the islands, climaxing with a vivid Samoan fire knife dance. It comes at a price ($110 plus tax and gratuity for adults), but what a creative leap from the usual Waikiki whirl.
