Pearl Description:
This French-inspired restaurant, with its beachfront location and outdoor seating, might do well to strive for a more casual, less fussy ambience. Dinner begins with complimentary pork rillettes, an odd, dry spread that fails to interest. A Champagne and oyster stew is satisfying, a bit heavy on Champagne, while the lobster bisque bears sparse bits of the grainy shellfish. A seafood napoleon, beef carpaccio and moules marinière are alternative starters. Entrées may include a fresh fish special but, as with the other main courses---tilefish, beef, duck, veal scaloppine and pork---might arrive drenched in a heavy sauce and overpowered by accompanying sides. Lunch, with its smaller portions of dinnertime dishes and a few select wraps, may be the lighter, less-expensive way to go in order to enjoy the ocean view and breezes while dining al fresco.
