The energetic owner of this Outer Banks culinary landmark not only knows his regular clientele by name as well as their favorite dishes and beverages, but he also provides the same personal attention to any and all newcomers. If unsure of your culinary bearings with Thai food after reading through the lengthy menu, consult him or any of his staff (it's all in the family). When they ask how hot you want the food, just remember Thai hot is on a level all by itself and you may be better off ordering spicy dishes "American hot" or mild. Favorites include the Thai Room soup (chicken, coconut milk and Thai spices); the only true pad thai on the beach; and chicken, shrimp or pork curries. Although a number of dishes are geared toward American tastes, the laab with ground pork, lime juice and Thai spices; the lemon grass soup; and the Crying Tiger are all authentic. While waiting for a table, have a seat at the cozy bar, and indulge in an exotic drink or a bottle of Singha beer while enjoying authentic Thai décor.
