Oriental carpets cover the walls, floors and seat cushions at Café Istanbul. Giant brass chandeliers hang overhead, and little arcade areas off the main room provide intimate dining spaces. The authentic Turkish food is no less impressive. Middle Eastern specialties like hummus, kebabs and grape leaves stuffed with rice and raisins do not disappoint, but we also recommend lesser-known specialties like marmara (calamari, shrimp, mussels, tilapia, halibut and potatoes slow cooked in a spicy tomato-mushroom stew) and sigara borek (crispy phyllo rolls with feta and parsley served with yogurt sauce). Don't miss an opportunity to try the Turkish coffee, which is served in an elaborate brass vessel.
