King and I Thai Cuisine Description:
King & I is one of the few restaurants on Kauai that consistently pleases. Its menu and décor haven't changed in years, but why tamper with success? Don't be put off by its nondescript Waipouli Plaza location; the food is tasty, the prices are reasonable and the interior is soothing, with an abundance of colorful potted orchids and pink walls covered with Thai memorabilia. Take the easy way out and choose from the chef's suggested dinners made for two, three or four guests. For the brave, roam through the multi-page menu filled with such longtime favorites as spring rolls (mushroom, carrot, long rice and onion wrapped in rice paper and served with lettuce and mint leaves) and green papaya salad (island papaya, tomato and red chili in spicy sauce). The chef grows many of his own spices. Choose beef, chicken or fish in the flavorful curries. There is also a special vegetarian section, and all dishes come in your choice of heat. Don't miss the black rice pudding for dessert. King & I also offers a surprisingly good wine and imported beer list.
