Smorgasbord Deli Description:
Walk into The Smorgasbord for a custom-made deli sandwich and a cup of homemade soup.
Look around, and you’ll see things that reflect more than just a business. There’s a used yellow and black sign that says "The Coquihalla and B.C. Hydro are not for sale" leaning against a wall. On the counter is literature from the Council of Canadians. In the window is a sign advertising a church’s organic dinner and lecture/singalong entitled Social Justice and Joyful Noises. Another sign invites interest in a youth action team that promotes awareness of racism through workshops and public events.
In the back there’s a small market, where deli owners Anita Strong and her husband Dalton sell plants from their Monte Lake greenhouses; they’ve been small-scale farmers for two decades. They also sell crafts from the 10,000 Villages project, which guarantees a fair wage to Third World artisans, as well as fair-trade coffee.
