JaK's Grill Description:
A welcome change from high-end mega steak emporiums, this spot is locally owned (other locations are in West Seattle and Laurelhurst) and managed. The steaks---huge portions of corn-fed Nebraska beef that is aged on the premises for at least 28 days---range from tender filet mignon to Prime porterhouse and brochettes dusted with Moroccan spices. Unlike high-priced steak joints, every dinner here includes a fresh green salad, seasonal veggies, fresh bread and either a baked potato, garlic mashed potatoes, potato pancakes or fries. Steaks are charbroiled over high heat and finished with Worcestershire-spiked steak butter; for $3, you can add one of four classic steak sauces, including a spunky sauce au poivre and rich Gorgonzola cream, to personalize your meat. JaK's dinner sandwiches, including the JaK's burger, are ideal if you have a smaller appetite and-or budget. You don't need to be a carnivore to enjoy JaK's; the prawn scampi, fresh wild Pacific salmon and lobster mac 'n' cheese are well-prepared. With its dark cherry wood, ceiling fans and a few mirrors, JaK's low key ambience is pleasant and unpretentious, while the service is professional. The no-reservations policy is JaK's one flaw; go early or during the week to avoid a long wait.
