Taco Rosa Description:
This is not your typical Mexican restaurant, and that's a very good thing. Although the interior does hold some Mexican kitsch, it also evokes the feel of a south-of-the-border beachside palapa with a small, yet lively cantina. Brother-owners Ivan and Marco Calderon have elevated the casual Mexican experience with lighter, healthier dishes as well as some classics. For example, you can order chips and salsa, but the server brings a seasonal amuse-bouche of fresh greens, tomatoes, shredded tortilla chips, tangy cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette. Tacos and enchiladas come with traditional meats, but also with salmon, lobster, lump crab and portobello mushroom. One entrée favorite is the flavorful chile relleno (a roasted poblano pepper stuffed with cheese and smothered in spicy and creamy caldillo sauce). At meal's end, don't miss ordering the feed-the-table dessert platter, which comes with handmade churros, chocolate-covered strawberries, flan de queso, raspberries, blackberries and even more dark chocolate sauce. Sunday brunch is a robust and rather inexpensive all-you-can eat buffet.
