Avenue Ale House Description:
Dark wood and stone dominate the masculine interior, which features doors that open to reveal breezes from Oak Park Avenue. The neighborhood crowd is welcoming, and the food beyond-average. A great way to start is with the stringy onion loaf, which we haven't seen the likes of since long-gone Harvey's went bust. Among salads, the chopped number with blue cheese, bacon, grilled chicken, avocado---the kitchen sink, really---stands out. Burgers are a fine follow-up, especially the version topped with sherry-caramelized Vidalia onions and Swiss. Snag a seat on the rooftop deck if you can.
