Don the Beachcomber Description:
Formerly Sam's Seafood and then Kona, Don the Beachcomber is a den of tiki kitsch and tropical cocktails in Huntington Beach. The original Donn Beach owned the first tiki bar in Beverly Hills and then a chain of Don the Beachcomber restaurants in Southern California and Hawaii. Beach passed away decades ago, but his rum-based cocktail recipes now have new life when Arthur and Delia Snyder took over this highly unique space, which features original tiki décor from the 1930s. And while the tiki vibe makes guests happy, the food and drinks aren't so fun. Perhaps the heavy-handed rum drinks just don't translate for today's foodies who expect fresh flavors. The cuisine unfortunately lacks freshness and flair. Still, we enjoy the calamari and tender baby-back ribs covered in a sticky ginger-barbecue sauce. The best part of Don the Beachcomber is the two banquet rooms in the back. Built to resemble a Polynesian village, the rooms can hold up to 350 persons and are home to the restaurant's Sunday brunch, which features a Polynesian dance revue.
