Zimzala Description:
Located inside the Shorebreak Hotel, Zimzala soothes the soul with its Zen atmosphere and pleases the palate with its authentic dishes gleaned from the coastal cuisines of the greater Mediterranean basin. Zimzala brought in cookbook author and Mediterranean cuisine expert Joyce Goldstein to give the menus authenticity, as well as modern sensibilities. For a crowd, start with the meze plate, which comes with creamy hummus, a crunchy vegetable salad, a cheese-filled Turkish "cigar" and a pita pocket filled with feta cheese and refreshing herbs. Or, order up the pizza-like flatbread with Manila clams, pecorino romano cheeses and a parsley-and-garlic pesto. Main courses are inspired by almost every Mediterranean country, like North African vegetable tagine couscous, Portuguese onion-smothered rib-eye or Turkish grilled lamb kebabs marinated in pomegranate and red wine. The wine list is full of well-chosen California, Italian, French and Spanish labels. Breakfast features lots of healthy options, plus some indulgent items such as a Mediterranean-style frittata, a smoked salmon panino and cinnamon brioche french toast.
