Shade Description:
Here's another cool, minimalist dining room by talented visionary Carl Eaves, featuring lofty whitewashed ceilings, red-hued hardwood floors and walls painted a refreshing celery green. The old restored Heights building with lots of windows provides just the right sprinkle of small-town charm. And the global-American menu created by owner-chef Claire Smith, formerly of the Daily Review, is just as enlightening. Flash-roasted oysters or pecan-crusted quail with corn, okra and scallion vinaigrette are both joyful beginnings. Homey pan-roasted chicken or thick grilled pork chops with Gruyère macaroni and cheese hit just the right comfort-food notes. Specials might include such highlights as stuffed brook trout and cress salad with sun-dried tomato vinaigrette. Weekend brunch is an affordable treat and a great way to explore the menu, allowing you to sample Asian scrambled eggs, a fried green tomato and bacon sandwich or chocolate-cherry croissant baba. Vegetarians will rejoice in all the brilliant options. To finish, we go loco for the fluffy coconut cream tart with a hazelnut shortbread crust---one of the best desserts in town.
