Pappasito's Cantina Description:
Weathered walls, decaying decorative items and the trademark retro neon lightning rod are all relatively new building features at Pappasito's, but you'll think you're in a time warp. This place wasn't the first to introduce fajitas to Houston, but it has long been considered home of the best. It's the marinade that makes an otherwise tough piece of skirt steak tender and flavorful. Garlic butter drizzled on the pile of meat, served sizzling on huge platters of onions, tomatoes and peppers, only adds to the pleasure. That sinful condiment comes in a cup on the side of also-excellent chicken and shrimp fajitas, and you'll also get fresh, hot and fluffy flour tortillas to wrap it all up. Other Tex-Mex offerings on the menu aren't as strong, but good house specials include marinated, mesquite-grilled quail with ancho honey glaze and slow-smoked pork ribs with chile pasilla barbecue sauce.
