La Mexicana Restaurant Description:
This corner café sporting a thatched palapa for outdoor dining dishes up the real Mexican thing: guisado de puerco (marinated pork tips), milanesa de res (breaded beef steak) and nopalitos en salsa chipotle (tender cactus cooked in a tasty pepper sauce). Of course, La Mexicana also does a steady business of serving enchiladas, quesadillas and fajitas. If ordering those, at least try one of the more unusual offerings, like mole or shrimp enchiladas. Better yet, try a seafood dish, such as the tangy ceviche, marinated in lime juice, or the mahi mahi fish tacos. The best deal, however, is found in the aptly named jumbo burrito. The giant tortilla bulges with the beans, meat and cheese of your choice. The Mexican chicken soup is the best---a huge whole breast of chicken floats in soulful homemade broth with hunks of potato, carrot and celery. La Mexicana also does a brisk breakfast business, especially on weekends. Try the sometimes salty, but good, migas smothered in cheese and ranchero sauce.
