Hugo's Description:
Though still a hot spot for Houston's hippest, Hugo's is settling into its stride as one of the city's best restaurants. Chef Hugo Ortega, also co-owner of Backstreet Café, really shines here with the dishes from his homeland. Milder and certainly more upscale than Tex-Mex standards, regional favorites include squash blossom soup, pork carnitas, snapper Veracruzana and four varieties of ceviche. We recommend the blue masa gorditas and the "red" mole sauce over tender roasted duck. Fine details---such as a thoughtful wine list designed for Mexican food and pure-tasting margaritas---put Hugo's in a class all by itself. Don't miss the chocolate flan or real Mexican hot chocolate made from cocoa beans ground on site. Soaring ceilings, wall-to-wall windows and chic Mexican décor compete with the food for greatness.
