Hobbit Cafe Description:
Named after the famous book that celebrates sociable little people who love to eat, drink and be merry, Houston's Hobbit Café is most notable for its deck surrounding a grand live oak tree. There, kindly owners-brothers Forrest and Raymond Edmonds nurture the cravings of Houston's health-conscious diners, as they have since the 1980s. The wide selection of vegetarian dishes promotes the usual suspects of sprouts and smoothies. There are also such inviting sandwiches as Bilbo the Magnificent with guacamole, tomato, cucumber and sprouts; and the Gandalf with avocado and mushrooms hidden under a blanket of melted cheese. Nestled alongside the eggplant and tabbouleh, shockingly, is a long list of half-pound Angus burgers that are surprisingly very good. You've got to love a health food restaurant for that.
