D'amico Italian Market Cafe Description:
Proprietor Nash D'Amicos's patrons enjoy his Southern Italian-American cooking with a sprinkle of Gulf Coast influence. The deli is a great stop for Italian meats and cheeses, plus focaccia sandwiches made on site. Daily steam table specials are filling, wholesome and provide a relatively inexpensive, quick lunch. Pick three items from the offerings, which may include meatballs; broccoli-and-cheese risotto; vegetable lasagna; a selection of soups; grilled and roasted vegetables; fried chicken; red snapper; and homemade Italian sausages and peppers. Indoor patrons and those at sidewalk café tables can also order full meals at dinner, such as veal scaloppine served over sautéed spinach and snapper amandine with crab meat. For pastas, we relish the wild mushroom-and-walnut tortellini as well as the ravioli stuffed with crawfish and poblano peppers. Some come here not to eat but to shop for Italian foodstuffs such as impressive cheeses, imported breadsticks, endless varieties of oils and wines, and darling little bottles of things they had no idea they needed.
