Max's Wine Dive Description:
Hardly a dive, this eatery on the trendy Washington Avenue restaurant row offers Texas cuisine kicked up a notch. Chefs in the open kitchen concoct such dishes as the Texas "Haute" dog, a Kosher all-beef hot dog tucked into a Kraftsmen artisan bun, with house-made St. Arnold beer sauerkraut, Texas red venison chili or neon relish, a dill pickle spear, peppers, tomato and celery salt. It's served with jalapeños, fried onion strings and Max's frites. The funky atmosphere extends to menu names like Nacho Mama's Oysters and Damn...Yankee Pot Roast. Local ingredients are used in comfort food like the jalapeño and buttermilk marinade for the deep-fried chicken (which really does pair well with Champagne, just like the T-shirt slogan says). Desserts change often but expect to find a Big Ass Brownie, a fudge and ancho chile brownie with dark chocolate ganache; and Trentino's dulce de leche gelato. The food is so good that other chefs hang out here late at night. Both the menu and the extensive boutique wine list change seasonally.
