Silver Coin, Indian Grill Description:
Flavors are exotic but the service is down-home friendly in this saffron-walled haven for fans of Indian cuisine. Chef Mohan Doss promised his friend Kishore Kotian that when he opened a restaurant he would come to work with him, and here the promise is fulfilled. Lunchtime diners find a buffet that includes salad and fresh fruit, a variety of main dishes, rice, tandoori (clay oven-cooked) chicken and dessert. Some of the treats are not on the menu and servers come by often with hot, freshly baked naan. At dinner, the extensive menu covers the gamut of southern and northern Indian dishes, tandoori specialties and Indo-Chinese selections. Try an idli, a steamed rice and lentil cake served with chutney and sambar, or a masala dosa, a thin crêpe stuffed with spiced potatoes. Kurmas, with an addictive cashew nut sauce, may be done with chicken or lamb. Shrimp vindaloo will satisfy the urge for something spicier. Tandoori platters or tikka masala dishes provide subtler flavors. Condiments and sauces are made in-house.
