Beachhouse Description:
Part of the transformation of the Moana Surfrider to a Westin Resort was the creation of this fine-dining steak and seafood restaurant. The concept works well due in no small part to the culinary talents of executive chef Rodney Uyehara (he helmed the kitchen of The Bistro at Century Center) and a solid team of experienced chefs and cooks. Following the trend of using the finest local produce available, chef Uyehara transforms steakhouse standards into refined and modernized versions of classic side dishes. Creamed spinach features Kula-grown greens, onion rings are made with sweet Maui onions and sautéed mushrooms come from the highly regarded Hamakua Mushrooms on the Big Island. Start with the seafood appetizer for two which features premium sushi-grade ahi, Alaskan king crab, delicate oysters, nicely textured abalone and sweet shrimp with a trio of dipping sauces. We favor the bone-in rib-eye for its pure beef flavor, but others will choose the filet mignon. Seafood selections, pork chops and chicken are offered as well, but really, get the beef. Dessert is not forgotten and we recommend the whimsically presented ginger ale float with fresh tropical fruit, vanilla ice cream and house-made ginger snaps. The restaurant is attractive in sand-washed tones of blue, cream and tan that softly glow in the flicker of candlelight. Perfect for a romantic dinner, whispered sweet nothings will be heard only by your loved one thanks to the graceful spacing of tables and banquettes in the dining room, or chose the spacious lanai if you come at sunset or just want to enjoy the gentle tradewinds of the tropical night.
