Chibo International Description:
We like Chibo, because it's like a trip to Japan---and not the classical, refined Japan, but the slam-bang modern version. A delicacy from the Osaka region, okonomiyaki is a sort of giant pancake of vegetables, rice and potato flour, plus a smorgasbord of other ingredients from squid to steak (you take your pick). Smothered in a formidable soy-tinged sweet-sour sauce, this is hardly classical teishoku fare. It's good, though, and there's a great atmosphere here, half purple metal zigzags and half ancient wooden booths. You have to like a Japanese restaurant informal enough to serve saké from California. We recommend it chilled instead of the house Chardonnay.
