Keo's Description:
Keo's menu is full of all sorts of unusual and appealing creations. Perhaps the most well known dish is the evil jungle prince, an addictive blend of chicken or shrimp with fresh basil, coconut milk and fresh chilies, set on a bed of chopped cabbage---there's a lot of Laotian influence at work here. Especially on a warm Honolulu evening, the varied salads here can make up a wonderful dinner. Try the sweetly refreshing green papaya, the enticingly named naked shrimp and the misnamed crispy fish salad (which should be called curry-paste fish). The curries are uniformly first-rate---we like the green curries best, filled with plenty of fresh basil from Keo's own farm. The Keo's that first became famous was at the edge of Waikiki, filled with orchids and tropical plants and various objets d'art. Now located in Waikiki proper, it serves American breakfast as well as Thai lunch and dinner. The spirit, menu and décor seem much the same. It's more convenient for visitors, but parking is difficult except at dinner, when there is valet parking. Also located at Ward Centre, 1200 Ala Moana Blvd., Honolulu, 808-596-0020.
