Il Piccolino Trattoria Description:
Only a few restaurants in Los Angeles can claim to host CEOs, tycoons, captains of industry, Hollywood stars, beautiful people and international jet-setters. Il Piccolino is one of them. They come to be a part of a small club, and they like the casual ambience of this small Italian trattoria hidden from busy Robertson Boulevard by a wall of exotic greenery, divided into two covered terraces and done up in brown tones with a simple décor. The other explanation is that none other than Los Angeles restaurant veterans Eddie Kerkhofs (shuttered Le Dôme, now BLT) and Silvio De Mori (Café des Artistes and Mimosa) are the delightful and gracious hosts, always present to make you feel welcome. The menu is like the ambience, attitude-free and simple. It ranges from different versions of carpaccio---red beets, traditional beef or tuna; lobster in a Cobb salad, with spicy linguine or on a bed of cannelloni; and foie gras with fig marmalade and balsamic reduction or with filet mignon. Other signature specialties include soups, Caesar salads, risotto, pastas and meats for two. The not-to-be-missed dessert is the chocolate mousse---one of the best we've tasted---served with red roses for the ladies. The wine list boasts selections from Italy, France and California. Note: The restaurant opens at 11:30 a.m. and serves patrons all day, without interruption, until 11 p.m.; take-out is also available.
