In an affluent neighborhood, across the street from Green Valley's upscale Galleria Mall, Applebee's is a popular dining hangout. A colorful Tiffany-style lamp hangs over each table. Adorning the walls are memorabilia of and tributes to the nearby high school's sports teams. The casual restaurant is a favorite of families for its imaginative menu items that include the tasty appetizer sampler of mozzarella sticks, spinach and artichoke dip, cheese quesadillas and boneless Buffalo wings, plus massive salads, burgers and entrées such as the crispy orange chicken skillet with almond rice pilaf. We like the flame-grilled Atlantic salmon glazed with honey-pepper sauce served with garlic bread. The low-fat menu even includes an apple-cranberry crisp. The sizeable pub-style bar offers plenty for the grown-ups, including a line of signature drinks with such names as Mud Slide---Kahlúa with vanilla ice cream and Hershey's chocolate syrup.
