Masala Bar & Restaurant Description:
This upscale Indian eatery in downtown Hartford is a rarity in the area for two reasons. First, though the place bills itself as non-traditional and innovative, the menu is unmistakably Indian, a cuisine not exactly abundant in Connecticut. Dishes not normally found around here include lobster masala, tandoori prawns and peppercorn-crusted duck; in addition, we particularly enjoy the rogan josh (robust, spicy lamb in a tomato cream sauce). Second, Masala is in a class far higher than the few other Indian eateries that do call this area home, most little more than take-out joints. Smart browns, oranges and golds dominate the color palette, while copper tandoors and traditional Indian saris and artwork adorn the walls and windows. Service is diligent almost to the point of annoyance.
