Tinkers Seafood Description:
Tinker's is nothing if not Spartan, resembling your old high-school cafeteria with its few long tables lined with chairs. But that's okay. Frills don't belong in a retail fish market, not even one that also happens to serve in-store meals fresh from the water. Among its specialties is a mammoth fish 'n' chips platter that's hard to beat, especially for the price, with fresh fried haddock crowning a mountain of crispy fries. Thanks to a greaseless batter that yields a light crunch, piscine satisfaction also inheres in the fried whole-bellied clams, bay and sea scallops, shrimp and smelts (a rare treat in New England), all equally affordable. Rolls come with the same good fries---including the seasonal lobster roll whose goodness means there's no need to head for the shore; you'll swear you can smell the ocean on your bun. Purchase some swordfish, salmon or cod and the kitchen will broil it for you with just a brush of oil, a sprinkle of paprika and a squeeze of lemon. In short, the utterly unpretentious Tinker's lives up to its motto: this is "where the portions are bigger and the fish is fresher."
