Island Cuisine Description:
This storefront shop has a few seats inside but mainly it's a take-away business for pretty good Jamaican staples such as ackee and codfish, callaloo and codfish, beef patties, coco bread and jerk entrées. Jerk chicken is wonderful, a spicy quarter bird that's fall-apart tender and infused with a lovely smoky aroma. It's set over a mound of brown rice cooked with pigeon peas. Daily specials feature delicacies such as curry shrimp, curry goat, oxtail and tripe and beans. As part of the daily lineup, you'll always find stewed chicken, jerk chicken, curry chicken, fried chicken, steamed fish and pepper steak. The portions are generous and the prices low. Once you've tried the jerk chicken, goat or oxtails, you'll come back for more.
