Penang Grill Description:
Longtime restaurateurs Alan and Jing Lee were among the first to introduce Pan-Asian cuisine to Greenwich, and Penang Grill remains a refreshing alternative to the haute eateries you typically find in the area. With its subdued lighting, dark wicker furniture and palm fronds, the interior recalls the parlor of some French-Indochine plantation house---a perfect setting for sampling the Chinese-tinged Southeast Asian menu. Taste the tropics in a complex mango sauce that, though spicy, isn't so overpowering that the sweetness of the tender scallops it accompanies can't come through. Or take a bite out of China with string beans in garlic sauce---fresh and crisp and boasting just the right consistency. Still, not everything is so well-balanced: not even a generous dose of soy sauce is sufficient to cut the excessive sourness of the beef with ginger glaze.
